Double Gloucester Madness...

We have the privilege of living in the village where most of the nutters who like to run after big cheeses come from!

This year in the UK, the end of May Bank Holiday was shifted to a week later and you will be forgiven for thinking that the only thing going on was the Queens Jubilee. Alas no! People came from far and wide in albeit smaller numbers than we're used to but they were there and DH and I decided that this would be the year we actually saw the cheese rolling down the infamous near vertical Coopers Hill.

Out into the back garden we went at 11.55am and from Mid-day onwards caught most of the races with the exception of the childrens uphill. It was a murky day and the pics are incredibly zoomed in but we saw the cheese and the running/falling mayhem that ensued.

Here's the evidence:

Tiny white spec 1cm down from people sat at top of hill is said wheel of Double Gloucester Cheese...
They're off and tumbling...
Almost half way down now...
And at the bottom where the local rugby team and St Johns Ambuance await to catch them...

Later that evening we got on the bus to visit friends and there were many revellers covered in mud and bruises! A lovely pair of young men moved to make way for our buggy and asked which stop was the hospital - their friend who was on crutches slipped whilst climbing the hill to view and fell down injuring the shoulder and another friend was also there with a broken collar bone, I hope no-one was more seriously injured and that those that have been are recovering well.
