Sneak Peek...

Knitting Magazine recently dropped through my letterbox and inside, among their usual great articles and patterns was a competition to design a scarf. I've done lots of research and think I've come up with an original combination of some stitch patterns to make my snuggly scarf - deadline for submissions is November 2nd, I should be well and truly ready by then x

If you go down to the woods today...

you're sure to have seen a little man and his grandad playing peepo around the trees, what a giggle - a great time was had by all and the special bacon from 'Le Gourmet' in Monmouth was incredibly tasty barbecued for brunch. For a treat Aunty Faye surprised us with these
What a breathtaking view!

Where's my pot of gold...

I recently came across a 'diet' version of a sponge that looked like loads of fun to make and sounded reasonable to eat too. Whilst the recipe only claims to be low fat and low calorie it doesn't advertise itself as healthy as soooo many people failed to spot and left rather nasty comments about the ill effects of Aspartame and Food Colourings. Despite all the dire warnings I chose to make the cake anyway (as cake should only be consumed in small quantities and not consumed by children on a daily or even weekly basis - nor adults for that matter).

I don't often say this but the cake took forever to cook and even after an hour in the oven still wasn't ready so back in it went. Both my son and I had a piece after our lunch and both bits were left unfinished - it's a shame, it looked lovely had a great texture but tasted awful and has left a nasty aftertaste too. In conclusion - forget diet cakes, what's the point?? make a full fat full tasty cake and just eat less of it, is it so hard?

Weather it will and whether it won't...

We've had such crazy weather over the last few days that it's put us all out and so to simplify things for little man I turned to the trusty internet (almost not so trusty as a dodgy site tried to viral attack us - phew, thank goodness for protection software).

I found a lovely site (google weather symbols for children there are loads out there) with most of the images I wanted and printed them off and laminated them, a bit of sticky tack later and they're up on our french doors waiting for him to come home from nursery and re-arrange them every 5 minutes as the weather changes its mind. I do hope he enjoys it!

I've not even finished this post and I can add the sunshine and sunshine/cloudy images to the door!

Rainbows...

To celebrate the arrival of family from far flung lands (due to said lands being too hot at this time of year) I have tried a new technique for icing a cake and whilst I like what I've done I feel I can do better and will try harder next time. Gosh that felt like a school report but nevermind x

My babies...

This picture was taken by the venture kiosk whilst we were out and about seeing Fifi and Bumble and I thought I'd share it with you all as they did a super duper job (especially as I was bright red in the face and almost blowing a gasket with all the queuing that day - I know it's black and white but you could tell on some of the earlier shots I assure you!). Look at those piercing eyes from the little men x

Fit check in... week 3

Not the greatest of weeks this week but also not the worst. A small set back weight wise as have reached a plateau there, however the sculpting continues and inches are disappearing where weight may not be. Also, stamina is markedly improved as finding myself still wanting more after 30 minutes of exercise and going on to complete other games or longer versions of my usual ones.

Scores on the doors...

BMI 30.38 (+0.08)
Inches lost 2.5

The joy of giving...

Over the last couple of months I have been preparing a number of gifts for a friend who is expecting her first baby in about 6 weeks time, I thought I'd share with you the finished item. You've seen the handmade items along the way and this is it all put together. A cake for the giving of the gift will be in order but that's not until next week x

Fit check in... week 2

So 14 days of wii fitting have gone by and also a trip to the physio (unrelated reasons) but at my physio appointment I was given some advice about what I personally shouldn't undertake and also what's great for me - hula hooping, this used to wear me out so quickly, I know that's the point and that I'm improving all the time so in this house we hoop most days!

So 2" lost overall in the second week
BMI 30.30
4lb weight loss in 2 weeks

Goal for the next fortnight is 3lb, which will take me out of the obese BMI into plain old overweight. Hope you're doing well also, keep it up - my energy hike if nothing else is well worth the effort.

A new project...

I've a surplus of bamboo tape style yarn and wanted to make something for myself - this seems to be one of the rare occasions that I couldn't turn to the internet for what I wanted as it doesn't seem to be out there so I'm creating my own!

Watch this space for another original design (at least I've not found something readily available like it anywhere)!

Fit check in...1 week

So whilst I only blogged about starting the fit project a short time ago, I have actually completed a week already and the verdict is good so far.

  • BMI 30.71
  • And 6" loss over standard measurements
  • 6 days completed out of 7 - the other day I had a 40 minute walk up our hill after dropping the car off for repairs.

Not anything significant on the scales, maybe 1lb but the real change is how quickly my muscles have responded and pulled in a little all over - clothes fitting more comfortably and am closer to my pre-pregnancy size with the exception of my waist measurement. Guess I'll have to combine a bit more resistance style wii poses with the cardio 'fun' games.

Still to get the pics done, think I'm avoiding asking my husband to help really x

Super Soft Baby Blankie...

So it's finished, all the knitting for my friend is over and the final reveal is the blanket, the pattern is available for free on ravelry or if you look to the right it should be a PDF there for you too x

I'd love to be wii...

...ly fit and healthy. I suppose this post ought to have some sort of before pictures but I didn't think about that until I sat down just now (will get DH to help me with that later as I'll need to change into something a bit tighter and unflattering to hopefully reflect the positive changes more clearly in a few weeks)!

I'm aiming to do at least 30mins of exercise per day, a minimum of 5 days out of 7 (1 of my non-wii days will be playgroup and that's 2 hours of running around after 2 year olds, not including the walk pushing the buggy there and back), if I do more then great, if not I'm not fanatical so won't be worried. And, I want to give this a fair shot so 28 days to begin with.

I'm not doing this scientifically I just want to feel more energetic and generally healthier and if some of my clothes fit better then great! Food wise I'm eating more fruit instead of rubbish snacks but that's about it as I like what I eat and don't think my diet is terrible but my portion sizes probably are (best cut those down too then).

27/07/2010 Starting BMI 30.91

Hope you'll feel like a few motivating comments here and there or if you want to join me, I'd love to have you on board!

Bubbles...

I've recently purchased a bubble machine for the little men, however I'm not sure who has been having the most fun - them or me??

I've been jumping, spinning, popping, clapping and generally chasing bubbles for the whole weekend I love it! Look at the colours the bubbles make...
