Pastry Part 1...

For tea tonight I wanted to try making my own quiche (or something like it) and so here you are, Broccoli and Parmesan Mini quiches. I made them in my muffin pan and cheated all the way with pre grated parmesan, frozen broccoli and ready made pastry, I had to mix the eggs, roll the pastry and season but with two small boys that was enough. I've recently realised how little time there is to put something interesting and homemade on the table of an evening so these were my compromise.

If anyone knows where to find a spare hour in the day for good nutritious easy to make food I'd love to know, oh and everyone in the family needs to eat it too! ......

...... Fish fingers and oven chips it is then - a minute tops to put on the tray, pop in the oven and then dish up when the timer pings 20 minutes later after having read three books, played peepo and kicked a ball around too.

Super Soft Baby Beanie...

So here is the beanie, Seed Stitch turned up brim, and a cute little top knot - worked on two needles in this pic and seamed afterward but could easliy be done over 4 or on a circular (I have done both quite simply before). Worked in just over an hour and a half. Love it, fine, soft and speedy!

Super Soft Baby Bootees...

A friend is expecting a baby in October and I wanted to put together a gift, I'm making a layette and so far the bootees are complete.

Having made a fair few bootees now I have created my own seed stitch style that I come back to time and again, I don't really have a pattern just a few random numbers that always seem to come out right. The beauty of these numbers is much more than skin deep too as I've discovered that the 4ply version is ideal from 0-3 months, the DK does 3-6 months and the aran weight is great for 6-9 months +, all of which I just use the corresponding needles for the yarn weight.

I'm trying to develop a seed stitch themed layette that would work as the bootees do, finer yarn for less mobile babies up to the great durability of an aran weight for those that are finding their feet and almost certainly their toes when crawling about - what do you think? Also, I'm trying to be unisex but simple with the style too.

P.S. I'm using Wendy Peter Pan 4ply in the above pic, it's a lovely bright white with a strand of shimmer running through.

Deliberations...

What to make for a friends pending bump arrival?
Do I stay blonde or go back to my more usual red and brown look?
Do I go and get dressed or mooch around in my dressing gown for a bit longer I have after-all been up for 5 hours already?
Is it shorts weather outside or too early to tell yet?
What cereal should I present to little man?
Is it time to get a magic 8 ball to answer all the silly little questions that start at 4am?
Will I ever find a part time job?

Arghhhh!

Mish Mash Blanket...

Here are a couple of pictures of the last few rows of the blanket and the whole thing too. It's worked in Patons Smoothie DK in a variety of colours (the white split a lot whilst hooking which was frustrating but glad I persevered with it).

Lots of ends to weave in now, least favourite part of the job! Learnt so much making this -even developed my own scalloped edging (bet it's in a book somewhere - I just mean I chose what to do without another influence to hand).

Bumpy Scarf...

Bumpy scarf in Cotton Jeans - took 2 skeins to make, quite a stiff piece as so dense (could make a great guitar strap I think!)
One of my latest finished items, it always seems a bit silly to be knitting or crocheting (in this case) during the summer but it's been pretty cool the past couple of days and I have ploughed on through sooooo many projects (three finished in the last week alone) and with current trend of getting things done I hope to finish off some of my other long-term projects too!

Holi YAY!

We've just returned from a week in Cornwall at the most beautiful self catering cottages near Wadebridge. When can we go back?? Look at our neighbours!
In the fresh air it feels as if we've all grown two inches (taller, although for me probably round the middle due to all the Cornish Cream Teas!) and have achieved our full quota of vitamin D for the whole of the rest of the year.
The weather was glorious and we were outside everyday for most of the day - be it jumping 'puddles' (how cute is that and all Little Mans saying) or visiting the livestock on the farm or taking boat rides or building sandcastles or flying kites or kicking a ball or simply walking along the narrow lanes to the local pub.

Off the needles...

A little 'car coat' for Evan, loved the feel of the baby Crofter DK but not sure the random pattern was quite what I was after this time. You can probably see I need to get some more buttons to finish it off.
The incredibly complicated chart for this took me 2/3 hours of trying to decipher it until I gave up! I went on Ravelry and found another pattern for the lace to finish it off - needs a blocking but reasonable fit as it is, very happy with the yarn and feel great that I've learnt something new (actually 2 things, the lace stitch and the crochet shell stitch too).
