Blogvent 12 - Felt Tree Dec...

As today is the traditional day to bring in the tree, I have a little tutorial of my own for a very quick and low cost decoration, that's great for using up scraps of felt or other fabric.

You will need:
  • Felt or Fabric strip 1 to 1.5 cm wide and about 15cm long (ribbon would work really well too)
  • Assorted beads - I used 8mm because that's what I had left but any size at least 8mm should look great (smaller and you could be there a while!)
  • Strong Cotton for sewing
  • Needle
  • Ribbon (I cut out and keep those ribbons you get on new clothes - can't stand them tickling me)
Tie a good knot in the end of your cotton, I doubled up and had a length at least 1.5 times as long as my felt.
Start to sew 1cm from the end of your felt, first through the felt then thread on a bead, insert the needle 1cm from first, thread another bead and continue like this until you have come to within 1cm of the end, thread on a final bead and stitch the two ends together.
Finish by tying on a hanging loop of fine ribbon and voila your little felt dec is ready to go.

I've not tried this but think it would probably work with fine wire too, which of course would help the circle hold shape, or you could manipulate it into any shape you wanted x

  1. What a lovely design, something small hands could do too.

  2. This is lovely - must have a try for next Christmas.x
